该教堂于十七世纪末由意大利著名建筑师约瑟夫•贝罗蒂设计建成，而中央高耸的双塔则是约瑟夫和亚库伯•丰塔纳的杰作。
有两个外部楼梯通往主入口，在主入口前有个“耶稣背负十字架”的雕像。该教堂是三殿两层。在教堂地下室有墓穴，在地面上一层能够找到许多名人的墓碑和墓志铭。
